Expiration & Storage Tips
When does starburst expire?
Unopened Starburst can last up to 9-12 months if stored properly. They typically carry a 'best by' date rather than a strict expiration date, so they can still be enjoyed past this date but may lose some flavor or softness. Once the package has been opened, it's best to consume them within 1-2 months to ensure they remain fresh and chewy. Although not a typical practice, freezing is possible and they can last up to 24 months in the freezer.
How do you tell if starburst is bad?
If your Starburst start to taste stale, their color fades, or they become exceedingly hard or even crystallized, it's likely that they have lost their freshness. Another sign they're past their prime is a white coating or spots, which suggest the sugar has begun to crystallize. While these candies won't necessarily make you sick, they won’t taste as they should.
Tips for storing starburst to extend shelf life
• Always store your Starburst in a cool, dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight to prevent them from melting.
• After opening the package, reseal it tightly or transfer the candies to an airtight container to keep them fresh and prevent them from drying out or becoming hard.
• For longer storage, you can freeze them. Just remember to store them in a freezer-safe bag or container. To thaw, simply leave them at room temperature for a few hours before enjoying.
