Expiration & Storage Tips
When does cinnamon candy expire?
Cinnamon candy can stay fresh for a fairly long time due to its high sugar content which acts as a natural preservative. Unopened packets of cinnamon candy typically stay fresh up until the best before date printed on the package, which is usually about 1-2 years from the time of packaging. Once the candy is opened, it can last about 6 months if stored correctly. Freezing is uncommon for candies and not recommended since it changes the texture and it doesn't significantly extend the shelf life.
How do you tell if cinnamon candy is bad?
If your cinnamon candy has gone bad, you might notice certain signs. Candy that has become sticky, or extremely hard may have been exposed to air and is starting to go bad. If your candy has a dull color and lacks the vibrant red hue, this is another indication that it has started to go stale. Additionally, if the candy has an off smell or taste, it’s best to throw it away.
Tips for storing cinnamon candy to extend shelf life
• Always store your cinnamon candies in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
• Try to seal the packet securely after each use to prevent air from entering. If your candy comes in a bag that can't be resealed, consider transferring it to an airtight container.
• If you live in a hot and humid climate, storing your candy in the refrigerator can help preserve it for longer. Just make sure it’s kept in an airtight container to prevent it from absorbing odors from other foods.
• Although tempting, avoid storing candy in your car or purse, as fluctuating temperatures can reduce shelf life.
