Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Cacciatore expire?
Cacciatore, as in Chicken Cacciatore, is a cooked Italian dish that will last a typical 3-4 days in the refrigerator. Depending on the freshness of your chicken and other ingredients, this timeframe could be a little shorter or longer. If frozen, cacciatore can last up to 2-3 months. Bear in mind that while freezing extends the safety of the food, the quality in terms of texture and taste may diminish over time.
How do you tell if Cacciatore is bad?
Always trust your senses. Cacciatore that has gone off will often have a sour smell. It also might develop a slimy or moldy appearance and surface or change in color. If you notice any of these signs, it's best to toss it out.
Tips for storing Cacciatore to extend shelf life
• Always allow hot dishes like Cacciatore to cool down before refrigerating. This prevents a buildup of condensation which can promote bacteria growth.
• Use airtight containers to store the dish. This keeps out moisture and other contaminants and also prevents flavors in your fridge from permeating the dish.
• For freezing, consider portioning the meal into individual servings before freezing. This makes it easier to thaw out just what you need, reducing waste.
• Practice FIFO, which means First In, First Out. Try to consume older food items before newer ones to minimize wastage.
• Always defrost frozen foods in the fridge rather than at room temperature to maintain safety.
