Expiration & Storage Tips
When does ginger ale expire?
Unopened ginger ale typically lasts for 9-12 months past the date printed on the container while kept at room temperature. If you're storing an opened ginger ale, it's best when consumed within 2-3 days, especially if you're keen on maintaining its carbonation, although it's safe to drink for up to a week stored in a refrigerator. If you choose to freeze it, freezing extends its shelf-life indefinitely, but this is usually not recommended as it can ruin the carbonation.
How do you tell if ginger ale is bad?
Ginger ale has gone bad when it loses its characteristic carbonation and becomes flat. This doesn't pose a health risk but certainly diminishes enjoyment. You might notice an off smell, or a change in flavor. If you see mold, it's best to err on the safe side and dispose of the product.
Tips for storing ginger ale to extend shelf life
• Keep away from direct sunlight and store in a cool, dry place.
• After opening, reseal the container tightly and store it in the fridge.
• Try to consume soon after opening, as the fizziness disappears after a few days.
• Although freezing is possible, it's not usually recommended for maintaining optimal flavor and carbonation.
