Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Fudge expire?
Fudge can typically last for about 1-2 weeks at room temperature when stored correctly. If left unopened and properly sealed, fudge can last up to 3 weeks past the 'sell by' date printed on the package. Once opened, consume it within 7-10 days for the best taste and freshness. If you decide to refrigerate your fudge, it can last up to 3 weeks. As for freezing, fudge can be frozen for an extended period of up to 3 months.
How do you tell if Fudge is bad?
Telling whether fudge has gone bad or not can be quite easy. First off, if you notice a change in color, this could be a sign of mold and it should not be eaten. Secondly, if it smells different or off, you should not consume it. Finally, if the texture of the fudge has become too dry or too gooey, it can be a sign that it's time to toss it out.
Tips for storing Fudge to extend shelf life
• Always store your fudge in an airtight container or sealed in a plastic bag. This will help prevent air from drying out your fudge and elongate its shelf life.
• Avoid storing your fudge in areas where it will be exposed to heat or direct sunlight. A cool, dark place like a pantry or refrigerator is the best place to store it.
• If refrigerating, allow the fudge to reach room temperature before storing it to prevent condensation from forming, which can ruin the texture.
• If freezing, wrap each piece of fudge individually in wax paper before placing in a freezer bag. To defrost, simply leave it in the refrigerator overnight before plating and serving.
