Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Poppyseed Muffin expire?
A store-bought poppyseed muffin will usually stay fresh for about 1-2 days at room temperature if it's kept in a sealed bag or container away from moisture and heat. However, if stored in the fridge, it can last up to 7 days. If you want your muffins to last even longer, freezing is a great option. Frozen muffins can last up to 2-3 months without losing much of their original quality.
How do you tell if Poppyseed Muffin is bad?
If your poppyseed muffin has gone bad, you may notice a stale smell or taste. This is a strong sign that your muffin is past its prime. However, visible signs of mold growth - often green or black spots on the muffin’s surface - are the most obvious indicators that the muffin has spoiled. In such cases, it's best to discard the muffin immediately.
Tips for storing Poppyseed Muffin to extend shelf life
• Keep the muffins in a sealed bag or container to maintain freshness and prevent them from drying out.
• Try not to store muffins in the fridge except if you cannot consume them within two days. Cold temperatures can make them dense and affect the texture.
• If you decide to freeze your muffins, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and then place them in a zip-top plastic bag. This will protect them from freezer burn.
• Defrost frozen muffins by removing them from the freezer and allowing them to thaw at room temperature, preferably still in their wrapping to prevent loss of moisture. For a quick thaw, you can also warm them in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.
