Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Fruit Snack expire?
Most store-bought fruit snacks, when unopened, are best eaten before the printed expiration date on the package which is usually between 6 months to a year from the manufacture date depending on the brand. However, they are generally safe to eat for a few weeks beyond this date if they were stored in a cool, dry place. Once a pack of fruit snacks has been opened, it's recommended to consume them within one week to maintain the freshness and quality. Keeping opened fruit snacks in a tightly sealed container in the pantry can help prevent them from drying out or getting stale. Freezing fruit snacks is not common, as it might affect their texture and chewiness.
How do you tell if Fruit Snack is bad?
To find out if fruit snacks have gone bad, you want to rely on your sense of sight and touch. The snacks should be vibrantly colored and feel soft and chewy to the touch. If they have faded in color, turned hard or brittle, or appear to have mold or discoloration on them, it's time to dispose of them. A sour or off smell is another indication that the fruit snacks are no longer good to eat.
Tips for storing Fruit Snack to extend shelf life
• To prolong the shelf life of fruit snacks, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The back of the pantry is often a good spot.
• Once opened, keep fruit snacks in a resealable bag or an airtight container to prevent them from drying out or absorbing moisture from the air.
• If you want to maintain freshness longer, you can store opened fruit snacks in the refrigerator. This can also make them a bit firmer and more refreshing to eat on a hot day!
