Expiration & Storage Tips
When does peach nectar expire?
Unopened commercially packaged peach nectar can last 1-2 years beyond the printed date when stored at room temperature. Once opened, peach nectar should be kept in the refrigerator and consumed within 7-10 days. If you've frozen peach nectar, it can last up to 12 months, but best quality will be if used within 2-3 months.
How do you tell if peach nectar is bad?
It's pretty simple to determine if your peach nectar has gone bad. First check for any signs of mold, which could appear as fuzzy spots or strange discoloration. Another tell-tale sign is off-smell. Fresh peach nectar should smell sweet and fruity. If the nectar smells sour, tart or just not right, it's safest to get rid of it. Lastly, if the peach nectar is fizzy, it's a sign it has started to ferment which means it's time to discard it.
Tips for storing peach nectar to extend shelf life
• Keep unopened peach nectar in a cool, dark place like a pantry or cupboard.
• Once opened, refrigerate immediately. Store it in its original container with a tight-fitting lid.
• If you plan to freeze peach nectar, make sure you don't fill the container completely to allow for expansion.
• You can also freeze peach nectar in ice cube trays and pop a few cubes into your favorite drink.
• Use a permanent marker to write the date you opened the nectar on the container. This way you can always be sure how long it's been sitting in your fridge.
