Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Juice Pouch expire?
An unopened juice pouch typically has a long shelf life, usually between six months to a year from its manufacturing date, depending on the brand, due to the preservatives added to extend its shelf life. This can also vary depending on the type of juice and preservatives used, so it's always best to check the printed expiry date on the package. Once opened, however, a juice pouch should be consumed immediately, and any leftovers should be refrigerated and drunk within 24 hours. As for freezing, while it's not a common practice, juice pouches can indeed be frozen and then thawed in the refrigerator or at room temperature when you're ready to drink it.
How do you tell if Juice Pouch is bad?
It's very easy to tell if a juice pouch has gone bad. Here are the signs to look out for: the pouch is bloated or swollen, which can be a sign of fermentation; there's an unpleasant smell when you open the pouch; the color of the juice has changed; or if there are any signs of mold. The juice may also taste 'off', sour, or even a bit fizzy, which indicates that it's definitely time to throw it out. Always trust your senses!
Tips for storing Juice Pouch to extend shelf life
• Always store unopened juice pouches in a cool, dry place such as a pantry away from direct sunlight.
• Once opened, keep the leftover juice in the refrigerator and consume within 24 hours.
• Make sure to properly seal the spout of the juice pouch after opening it to prevent air getting in which can spoil the juice faster.
• While it's not common practice, you can freeze juice pouches. They can make a fun, slushie treat for kids in the summer or they can be used as cold packs in lunchboxes.
