Slice the ciabatta loaf into six equal portions horizontally, then cut each slice into thirds. Lay the pieces on a baking sheet.

Over a bowl, grate the ripe tomatoes using a box grater.

Put the cut ciabatta bread under a preheated broiler and let it toast for about 2 minutes until golden brown and slightly crisp.

Take the toasted bread out of the broiler and immediately rub the surface of each slice with the garlic clove. This imparts a subtle garlic flavor into the toast.
