In a saucepan, heat olive oil. Fry the sliced onions until golden brown. Remove some for garnish and leave the rest in the pan.

Add the rinsed lentils to the saucepan with onions and stir to coat with oil.

Dissolve the vegetable bouillon cube in 2.5 cups of water and add to the saucepan along with the salt. Bring the mixture to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium, cover the saucepan and simmer for about 10 minutes.

Now, add the soaked long grain rice to the lentil mixture in the saucepan and stir gently.

Cover the pan, turn the heat down to its lowest setting, and let it cook undisturbed for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and all the water has been absorbed.

Turn off the heat and let the rice and lentil mixture steam in the pan for about 5 minutes. Uncover and fluff the mixture with a fork.
