Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Cosmopolitan expire?
Cosmopolitan, being an alcoholic cocktail primarily made of vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice and Triple sec, doesn't typically 'expire' in a traditional sense because of the high alcohol content. However, its quality can diminish with time. Unopened bottles of vodka can last indefinitely but once opened, it's optimal to consume within 12 months. The cranberry and lime juice, however, can last unopened for up to a year, but for about 7-10 days once opened. If you've mixed a Cosmopolitan but haven't drunk it all, it's good to refrigerate it and consume within 2-3 days.
How do you tell if Cosmopolitan is bad?
You can tell if a Cosmopolitan cocktail has gone bad if there is an off-smell, a sour taste, or if it has lost its vibrant color and has become cloudy. The degradation of the juices in the cocktail will likely be the first sign of spoilage. If it doesn't taste right, discard it to be safe.
Tips for storing Cosmopolitan to extend shelf life
• Always store vodka in a cool, dark place, and keep it away from heat or sunlight.
• Once you’ve opened a bottle of vodka, it’s a good practice to consume it within a year.
• Store your cranberry and lime juice in the fridge after opening, and try to consume within 7-10 days.
• Mixed Cosmopolitans should be refrigerated in a sealed container and consumed within 2-3 days.
• Avoid storing any ingredients or the final product in a plastic container, as the alcoholic content can interact with the plastic and alter the taste.
